I Have a Place: The Poetry of Jim Wayne Miller (1985)
30 minute video documentary.
Provided with permission of Western Kentucky University.
My first documentary dealing with writers and literature of the mountain South. The program features commentary by novelist Wilma Dykeman and critic Wade Hall, animation by Ed Counts and music by the McLain Family Band. I Have a Place was widely broadcast on the PBS system, and won a number of awards, including a Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival. Jim Wayne Miller, Mary Ellen Miller, James Still, Joy Bale Boone, Wilma Dykeman, and Wade Hall were among the several writers, poets, and critics I met and worked with during my years at Western Kentucky University. My collaboration with these figures in literature, as well as with my colleagues Ed Counts (animator) and Tom Foster (artist/graphic designer), provided me a very rich creative experience, the basis in many ways for my present work in both video and poetry.
